Correcting Potok’s parking committee record

To the Editor,

In response to his letter, “Correcting the multi-space meter record,” Trustee Leon Potok is delusional and has a selective memory.

The parking committee is comprised of 11 members hand chosen from 26 applicants by the majority of the Board of Trustees. The officially appointed liaison to this committee is Trustee Louis Santoro. Apparently, after the committee’s first meeting, the majority of the village board felt the need to appoint a second liaison to the committee, which is how Potok came to be a liaison.
Ever since his self-appointment, Potok has done everything in his power to influence and interfere with the committee’s work. The only semi-true statement in Potok’s letter to the editor is that the committee voted unanimously to install the multi-space meters in the parking lots off of Mamaroneck Avenue. The actual recommendation by the committee was for the already purchased multi-space meters to be reprogrammed as pay by space and installed only in the parking lots off of Mamaroneck Avenue. The subject of testing anything on Mamaroneck Avenue was brought up at the end of our meeting and it was only for the sole purpose of testing the technology of the two competing providers of single-space meters.

One committee member stated that perhaps we should consider testing multi-space meters on the avenue as well. This began a discussion and it was a 3-3 split. Thus, we decided to continue this discussion and any further discussion of Mamaroneck Avenue proper at our Jan. 21 meeting. Had Trustee Potok not felt the need to control the committee he handpicked, the village board would never have even known about any mention of testing.
As always, Trustee Potok has overstepped his bounds and twisted information to reflect his own personal desires. As chairwoman of this committee, I find it offensive and downright rude of Potok to assume that the committee would not have reached a recommendation for Mamaroneck Avenue at our January meeting. I find it reasonable to say that without Potok’s constant interference, the committee most likely would have reached a recommendation months ago on every issue from the parking lots to the avenue to pricing and time limits.

Chairwoman, village of Mamaroneck Ad Hoc Parking Committee
