The legislator-elect credited his victory to support from both parties, noting that Democrats in District 14 outweigh Republican by 2-to-1. “We could not have won without Democrat support and support of people from all different backgrounds,” Tubiolo said.

He added, “We have a message that reaches everyone: it’s affordability.”

In a released statement, county Minority Leader John Testa, a Peekskill Republican, said, “Having David join us at the [Board of Legislators] will ensure the continuation of the bipartisan coalition that has been so successful in keeping spending down and taxes flat.”

Tubiolo announced his candidacy on June 25, after former county Legislator Bernice Spreckman, a Yonkers Republican, who had held the District 14 seat for more than 20 years, resigned. District 14 covers parts of the cities of Yonkers and Mount Vernon.

Tubiolo, 28, had been Spreckman’s legislative aide for more than five years.

Westchester County laws require that a special election be held within 90 days of a legislator’s resignation.

Tubiolo will hold the seat for the 16 months remaining on Spreckman’s unexpired term, but would have to run again in November 2017 for a full two-year term.

Tubiolo’s father, Justin, is the chairman of the Yonkers Republican City Committee. His mother, Barbara, is the executive director of the Westchester Republican County Committee.
