Sometimes, there’s nothing more important than peaking at the right time.
On May 17, the Rye lacrosse team proved they are doing just that, authoring a terrific 11-8 win over Class A power Mamaroneck ahead of the 2025 postseason. The matchup was an important one for both teams—as it pitted two favorites to win a Section 1 title against each other in the waning days of the regular season, giving both plenty to build on with the playoffs beginning this week.
Charlie Brady had three goals for the Garnets, who also got a big boost from Sam Lamonte, who took over for Ty Ramachandran after the standout Georgetown-commit suffered a hamstring injury late in the first half. Although Ramachandran would not return to action, Lamonte acquitted himself nicely, notching seven saves.
“Sam did a great job in a really tough spot, he came up with some big saves for us,” said Rye head coach Steve Lennon. “He’s worked so hard behind Ty, he follows him around at practice, eager to learn, and the good thing for him is there’s nobody better to learn from than Ty.”
Jake Reese had two goals and three assists for Mamaroneck, who cut the Rye lead to one goal in the fourth quarter before a late Garnet surge was able to put things away for the visiting team. But Lennon was pleased with his club’s ability to hang on against a good team in a late-game scenario, noting that it will only serve them well as they head towards the postseason.
“This is a playoff atmosphere, the stands are packed and this is a rivalry,” said Lennon. “Every single time we play it’s like this and it was just such a great day to play lacrosse.”
Rye finished the regular season at 13-2, going 10-0 against Section 1 competition. They have secured the top seed in the Class C playoffs and appear to be on a collision course with No. 2-seeded Somers (13-3, 12-0 in Section 1). Mamaroneck took on the Tuskers in the final game of the regular season on Monday, falling 17-7.
The Tigers finish at 10-6 overall and will be the top seed in Class A. They finished the regular season having dropped three of their last four games, all to phenomenal opponents.
