Mamaroneck’s girls basketball team closed out 2025 as something of an enigma—a talented team capable of soaring to great heights while also suffering the occasional stumble. But the Tigers began 2026 on the right foot, earning a convincing win over Pelham in the Slam Dunk Showcase at the Westchester County Center.

On Jan. 2, the Tigers topped the Pelicans 38-28, handing a six-win Pelham team just its second loss of the year on the most famous arena in Westchester. Mamaroneck was led by a tremendous performance from center Addison Dorfman, who tallied 14 points and grabbed a whopping 16 rebounds on the day en route to being named the showcase game’s MVP.
Dorfman’s contagious intensity helped to spur the Tigers on their big second-half run—the game was tied at 12 at the half—and it was that renewed energy that she said turned the tide.
“You have to give all the credit to Pelham, they played really aggressively, they were diving on the floor for loose balls, and at halftime, we just said we’re getting outworked; they wanted it more than us and that’s never really acceptable” said Dorfman. “We just started to control the things we could control; getting back on defense, going after loose balls, talking more and our press was effective too.”
Soukeyna Tounkara added 11 points for the Tigers while Greta Norman chipped in six for good measure as the Tigers improved to 3-2 on the year. In those five games, however, there have been solid performances, including Friday’s win and the team’s December win over Ursuline—a first in the program’s history—as well as games like a Dec. 20 tilt against Scarsdale that saw the Tigers score just three points in the second half in a losing effort.
Dorfman said that in 2026, consistency will be key for a team that hopes to find itself back to the County Center with a strong playoff push.
“We need to stay stable; we don’t want to get too high, we don’t want to get too low, just stay somewhere in the middle which has been working for us,” said Dorfman. “We want to show up every day and get after it.
“We were really honored to get the invite to come play here and we have hopes of getting back,” she added. “We’re getting used to it, the environment is a little bit different, so hopefully we can get back here and have advantage when the playoffs come around.”
