Larchmont lines up for Memorial Day parade

The American Legion Post No. 347 hosted the annual Larchmont Memorial Day parade on Thursday, May 26. Parade participants gathered near the train station in the early evening hours for a procession that began at Chatsworth and Palmer avenues and concluded at the Larchmont Fire House on Larchmont Avenue.

Local Boy and Girl Scout troops, students from Mamaroneck High School and Hommocks Middle School, professional bagpipe players, police and fire department members, local leaders and veterans all took part in the march.

Larchmont and area residents lined the streets in the village’s business district in anticipation of the various groups passing by. Active service members who returned home for the long holiday weekend and others who traveled to the area for Fleet Week in New York City mingled with the crowd. Fleet Week is a United States Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard tradition in which active military ships recently deployed overseas dock in major cities for the week.

The Larchmont parade provided an opportunity for service members to share their experiences serving in the United States armed forces with residents, as all reflected on those who were lost while serving their country.
