Sound Shore committee announces parade date

The village of Mamaroneck Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to designate Sunday, March 18th, 2018, as the official date for the 7th Annual Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The date was formally announced at the Sedona Taphouse in Mamaroneck, where the owners presented the parade committee with the proceeds of their Steakout for Charity monthly fundraiser. On every Monday in March, Sedona Taphouse offered a delicious steak special to all of their customers, and a generous portion of those proceeds were donated to the Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade Scholarship Fund.

The annual Parade has awarded a total of $17,500 in scholarships to local high school students to date, a tradition that began five years ago with the first Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade. “Our aim is to organize a great Parade event for the Sound Shore communities and to celebrate Irish-American culture,” said scholarship committee chair Chris Regan. “It also provides for scholarships for deserving students who have dedicated part of their lives to preserving Irish culture and heritage in our area.” Regan added that the committee is currently reviewing candidates for this year’s scholarships, and looks forward to announcing the winners next month.

Joining Sedona Taphouse owners Ron Duckstein and Bill Jablonski for the check presentation were the 2017 Grand Marshal, Valerie Moore O’Keeffe, Mamaroneck Chamber of Commerce Board President Susan Fuller, former president Rose Silvestro, Village Mayor Norman Rosenblum, and parade committee members Chris Regan, Chris Murphy, Tim O’Neill, Laura Murphy, Padraic Boyle, Shannon O’Leary Pujadas, and Michael Murphy. Parade President Laura Murphy concluded that the parade “is a testimony to the nation of immigrants who built our great country, representing the entire Sound Shore, from Port Chester to Pelham.”
