Town FD to hold $1.4M bond votes

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he town of Mamaroneck Fire District will hold a special election on June 27 to ask eligible voters to bond for up to $1.4 million for new turnout gear and the reconstruction of the headquarters’ floor.

The bond to acquire turnout gear—a firefighter’s full ensemble—is estimated to cost a maximum of $250,000.

The heftier bond, planned at a maximum of $1.15 million, is to reconstruct the floor of the town Fire Department firehouse, located at 205 Weaver St. in the village of Larchmont. This project is a Type II action, per the State Environmental Quality Review Act, SEQR, meaning it will not have an adverse effect on the environment, nor does it require SEQR review.

Both bond resolutions were adopted at the town Board of Fire Commissioners meeting on May 17.

The town of Mamaroneck Fire Department is home to approximately 70 volunteer firefighters and 14 career firefighters. The district covers 5 square miles.

Voting for residents who live within the fire district boundaries will take place at the firehouse at 205 Weaver St. from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A representative from the town Fire Department could not be reached for comment as of press time.
