Ciara Cattano, from Mamaroneck High School, committed to Providence College, Patrick Cremin, from Salesian High School, bound for Notre Dame, and Theresa Shanahan from Harrison High School, pledged to Boston College, were honored at a luncheon at Bar Harbor Restaurant in Mamaroneck. Along with the students’ parents, the 2017 Parade Grand Marshal Valerie O’Keeffe was in attendance to assist Laura Murphy, committee president, and Chris Regan, scholarship coordinator, in the scholarships presentation. Each student also received a special proclamation on behalf of State Assemblyman Steven Otis for their contributions to the Sound Shore community.

The Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade Scholarship Committee has awarded a total of $25,000 in scholarships, a tradition that began six years ago with the first Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade. “Our aim has always been two things,” Regan said, “to organize a great parade event for the Sound Shore community and also provide for scholarships for deserving students who have dedicated part of their lives to preserving Irish culture and heritage in our area.”

The Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a celebration of Irish-American heritage and the American immigrant experience for the entire Sound Shore community, from Port Chester to Pelham.
