Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions secure COVID-19 grants

The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club has secured two grants from the Lions Multiple District to support local groups assisting coronavirus affected
residents. Each grant was for $2500.

The first grant was provided by the New York State & Bermuda Lions Foundation to the LM Lions for the Fuller Center.   The Fuller Center has been providing
food and necessities to our community’s most vulnerable.   They have been buying, collecting and storing food and supplies—from masks to diapers, distributing at their center or delivering directly to those in need.

The second grant was from the Brandel-Murphy Lions Youth Foundation, given to the STEM Alliance of Larchmont-Mamaroneck’s STEM Navigators Virtual
Mentoring program.   School closures and the subsequent move to distance learning has been particularly challenging for students from low income backgrounds.

While the Mamaroneck school district has worked extensively to provide devices to those with need, the students and their families’ ability to use those devices
vary. Through the Virtual Mentoring program, students are paired one-to-one to a mentor who assists with digital fluency and provides home work support.

Our community, its people and  its organizations have jumped in to help the many local needs that have arisen from the coronavirus pandemic. The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions look to work with and support these efforts.   LM Lions are part of the International Lions Clubs, the largest service organization in the
world. Their signature cause is  support for the blind and sight health.   Lions other core services are the environment, hunger, diabetes, childhood cancer and
youth—and are a signatory with the United Nations 50/50 by 30 equal rights for women and the UN’s refugee rights. (Submitted)
