Astorino’s fiscal recklessness

To the Editor,

I was dismayed to read about another instance of fiscal recklessness by our Westchester county executive, Rob Astorino. Under the direction of Astorino, Westchester County leased an office in New York City that cost taxpayers $85,000. The office has been under utilized and served no justifiable purpose, and will now be closed when its lease expires.

Why does Astorino continue mismanaging the county budget? He has leveled draconian reductions in essential services that many residents of Westchester depend on, like the Bee-Line bus transportation system. He has endangered our public safety by leaving county police positions unfilled. And yet, somehow he can justify wasting our taxpayer money on unused office space.

Astorino has repeatedly touted himself as a prudent financial manager, but a closer examination of his record belies this claim. I certainly hope that the voters of Westchester County hold him accountable this November.
