The celebration will include hors d’oeuvres, a champagne toast, birthday cake from Bradley’s and music by the MHS Jazz Band and The Force. The event will honor the organization’s past presidents and will feature profiles of past scholarship recipients. Claudia Huter, owner of the Larchmont Music Academy and a 1990 SAF scholarship recipient, will speak at the event. “When I was applying to college, I was desperately in need of financial assistance. The Student Aid Fund scholarship helped me cover basics such as books,” Huter said. “When you give someone a scholarship, you give them more than just financial aid; you give them the knowledge that someone believes in them.”

The SAF began during the Depression, as community members reached out to help needy MHS graduates attend college. To date, the SAF has assisted nearly 2,000 MHS students achieve their dreams. In recent years, more than one in seven MHS graduates received an SAF scholarship. More than half were the first generation in their families to attend college. According to SAF board President Amy Guenzl, “The Student Aid Fund reflects what a special community we live in—with people helping their neighbors’ children afford college.”
